Caledonian Society - Burns Supper (2020) Dedicated to perpetuating the immortal memory of the Scottish poet and lyricist Robert “Rabbie” Burns who lived from 1759 — 1796, this event is celebrated each January all around the world. What struck me most about this patriotic event, replete with traditions ranging from kilts, to the parading of the haggis, to speeches, was the very entertaining demonstration of modern highland dancing that was performed by a number of young girls from the Bermuda Highland Dancers troupe.

Caledonian Society - Burns Supper (2019) The Caledonian Society of Bermuda held its first Burns Supper in January 1937 and has done so every year since, with this year’s 82nd annual event took place on Saturday, January 26 at the Mariner’s Club on Richmond Road in Pembroke. Caledonian Ball (2016) “The Ball kicks off with a cocktail reception in the main ballroom, with a cash bar from 6.30 pm until 7.30 pm. Guests will then seated at 8 pm for a five-course meal, after the Grand March of invited local dignitaries and welcomed by Master of Ceremonies, Mike Bishop. Dinner will be followed by the ceilidh portion of the evening [Scottish dancing], with live tunes from the Bermuda Islands Pipe Band and contemporary music from DJ Felix Tod until 2 am.”

Special guests at the Games included the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Pipe Band H Division and their Dancers, the Schiehallion Dancers from Hamilton, Ontario, and the Mackenzie School of Dance from Halifax, Nova Scotia.

The Caledonian Society of Bermuda will be holding its 2nd Annual Highland Games, which, in addition to a host of ‘field’ events will include Highland dancing competitions and bagpiping demonstrations.
